Review: SkinYoga: A treat for your mind and your body

Now I’m back from Italy, and getting adjusted to my new routine I thought it was about time I introduce you to another brand I’ve been really enjoying. One of my favourite things about my work is finding fantastic vegan and cruelty-free products to share with you.

It’s so important to me because I think people often get a little overwhelmed when trying to find suitable products, or perhaps they aren’t quite sure what skincare and make-up items are even vegan. Don’t worry, I get it – I’ve been there, and it’s confusing! Then, there’s the trial and error of finding something that not only is vegan and CF, but that is luxurious and does what you want it to.

I have you covered kitty cats.

SkinYoga is a vegan brand offering natural products for face and body. The ingredients are natural and minimal, often with 3-5 in each item.

The SkinYoga website says:

“We formed SkinYoga to create solutions for people who want to adopt to a natural lifestyle, which we believe will lead to peace and purity of mind, body and soul. We direct our efforts towards launching products inspired from ancient times to be adopted in our modern day lifestyle.”

This approach definitely shows in their products, which smell wonderful and leave you feeling calm and uplifted – they are a joy to use.

SkinYoga review

I was sent samples of:

SkinYoga Sandalwood Saffron Mask

This is the cutest little bottle I’ve ever seen and it gives me serious Alice in Wonderland vibes.

I remember my mum making the most delicious saffron rice when I was little, and telling me that saffron was the most expensive spice in the world. I watched in awe as she created the dish, imagining it being thousands of pounds, feeling like a princess when we sat down to eat.

Now, please forgive my younger self’s overactive imagination… but it is actually the most expensive spice, however it is a little more credit card friendly than I once thought!

The use of saffron makes the product feel luxurious, and the scent, combined with sandalwood (which is one of my favourite notes in perfume) gives it a very unique smell. It’s by no means unpleasant at all. It’s earthy, yet almost ethereal.

This is the first non-liquid face mask I’ve ever used and to be honest, I wasn’t sure how well it would work.

It was fairly easy to apply, but a word of warning, less is more when it comes to the amount of water you mix with the mask to make the paste. I used too much on my first attempt and ended up using more of the mask than I wanted to.

The next attempt was much more successful and I just mixed a drop or two of water to start with, mixing it all together, and then a couple more drops etc.

Leaving the mask on for about 20 minutes, my face didn’t feel tight at all and I removed the dried mask with a hot, wet muslin cloth. It left my skin feeling so soft and fresh – I think the graininess of the mask definitely helps with exfoliating dead skin cells.

SkinYoga Coffee Body Scrub

I was really excited to try this. Don’t laugh but last year I went through a bit of a DIY phase of trying to make a coffee grounds exfoliator, and it just didn’t do much and was really messy.

The Coffee body scrub smells like high quality coffee beans (mmmmm) and I think this is a great product to use first thing in the morning to get you bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Caffeine on the skin can help reduce the appearance of cellulite and it’s also been linked to fat metabolism. Whilst I can’t say I’ve noticed weight loss results, my skin feels much smoother when I’ve scrubbed. I do suffer from dry patches on my legs, and this has helped a lot.

SkinYoga Fresh Orange Body Mousse

So just looking at the ingredients (sundried Orange, Organic Turmeric, Sugar, Black Seasame oil) makes me feel like I want to eat this. I haven’t tasted it, but I kind of think it would be delicious.

I’ve never used a grain mousse before, and again I wasn’t sure how it would stand up in comparison to more traditional creams and lotions.

I was genuinely surprised at its effectiveness. After the first use my skin was feeling SMOOTH and soft. And, I smelt pretty delicious if I do say so myself.

I applied my mousse whilst still in the shower, and yes, it was a little messy, and I was a bit nervous the turmeric would stain the shower floor – but it didn’t (phew).

I also liked how easy this product is to use. Literally standing in the shower, waiting three minutes and then washing it all off is effective, easy to maintain and also makes you feel like you’re having a min-spa treatment.

Important to note: with both the scrub and the mousse, please don’t leave the packets in the shower in case the moisture or shower water gets in to the dried product.

I love SkinYoga’s pure and natural ingredient ethos, and this proves that you absolutely can enjoy luxurious, effective products that don’t contain any nasties. ¬†Hooray!
