Sales of vegan food increased by 1500% in last year

I certainly have contributed my fair share to this figure, but in the past 12 months the sales of vegan food items have increased by a staggering 1500% – wow! As reported earlier this year, there are now around 500,000 vegans living in the UK – a 260% increase over the past decade (#vegansquad).

I know lots of people that are more conscious of reducing their meat and dairy intake, and with such fantastic animal-free products available on the market – like Alpro milks and yoghurts, Vitalite butter spread, Violife cheese and Linda McCartney’s sausages – it certainly is getting easier for people to make┬áthose little changes.

The good news is that supermarkets are recognising that┬ámore and more customers are opting for the ‘free from’ options, as we’ve seen recently with Sainsbury’s range of Gary (ahem, vegan cheese), Tesco’s vegan chocolate selection box, and Marks and Spencers’ growing assortment of gelatine-free sweet treats.

It’s easier than ever to grab a soya latte on the go, pick up a tasty vegan sandwich from WH Smiths or Boots and get your post-gym green juice – and thank the lord for that. We are moving into the mainstream, kitty cats, and I have no doubt that 2017 will have even more options for us to enjoy.
